Ante la decadencia sufrida por la filosofía en el mundo actual, es necesario preguntarse por qué. Julián Marías —para el autor de este artículo, el principal filósofo de nuestro tiempo— da respuesta en sus obras a esa situación crítica, la diagnostica y al mismo tiempo se ocupa de cómo hay que hacer filosofía. Piensa que los grandes quebrantos de la humanidad han coincidido con situaciones inadecuadas de la filosofía. Considera que la filosofía reclama el uso pleno de la razón. Entonces podrá librarse de la abstracción y será capaz de orientar al hombre, que necesita “ensimismarse”. El filósofo piensa desde sí mismo, por una necesidad de ver con claridad, de saber a qué atenerse respecto a su vida concreta.
In sight of the decadence to which ours contemporary philosophy is subject, it is very necesary to wonder about its reason. Julián Marías —who is, for this article’s author, our time’s greatest philosopher— gives answer in his work to this critical situation, diagnosing it and at the same time finding out how philosophy nowadays should proceed. He thinks that the gratest human crises have coincided with inappropriate philosophical situations. He considers that philosophy claims the whole use of reason as its progressive goal in order to get rid of abstractions and be able to guide man, whose projects should always start from the inside. The philosopher aims at thinking from himself as his authentic oportunity to reach clarity and to reckon on his concrete life.
