LAS PARADOJAS DEL HUMANISMO MODERNO:
LA DEMOCRACIA, LA LIBERTAD Y EL PROGRESO

RESUMEN:
El presente artículo pretende analizar el significado profundamente paradójico de tres conceptos cruciales para el Mundo moderno: la Democracia, la Libertad y el Progreso, en la medida en que todos ellos remiten a una cuestión más básica e históricamente compleja. Me refiero al Humanismo que caracteriza, histórica y culturalmente, a eso que convencionalmente solemos denominar Civilización occidental. Por lo tanto, pensar la crisis desde la Cultura occidental remite inevitablemente al significado profundamente paradójico del Humanismo europeo.
ABSTRACT:
This article analyzes the deeply paradoxical meaning of three concepts which are very important for de Modern World: Democracy, Freedom and Progress. They all relate to a more basic and historically complex question, Humanism, which characterizes, both historically and culturally, what we usually call Western Civilization. Thus, thinking about Western Culture, leads us inevitably to the deeply paradoxical meaning of European Humanism.
