ABSTRACT: In Plato´s Symposium (201d-212b) appears perhaps one of the most enigmatic characters in Ancient History: a priestess from Mantinea called Diotima, who taught Socrates in the mysteries of love and other subjects. Many scholars have doubted about her very existence, taking her as a mere literary character. Those who have considered that she was an historic figure have dismissed the importance of her ideas. Here we are going to claim that she was a real woman and we will try to find out about her own thoughts. |
