DIOTIMA DE MANTINEA

      En el Banquete de Platón (201d-212b), aparece una de las figuras acaso más enigmáticas de la historia Antigua: una sacerdotisa de Mantinea llamada Diotima que instruye a Sócrates en los misterios del amor y unas cuantas cosas más. Muchos estudiosos han dudado de su existencia, considerando que es un simple personaje literario, y los que han dado por bueno que existió realmente, han supuesto que sus ideas son de escasa importancia. En el presente trabajo vamos a defender que Diotima es un personaje probablemente real y trataremos de averiguar cuáles fueron sus ideas, esas a las que les dio Sócrates tanta importancia. 

ABSTRACT:

     In Plato´s Symposium (201d-212b) appears perhaps one of the most enigmatic characters in Ancient History: a priestess from Mantinea called Diotima, who taught Socrates in the mysteries of love and other subjects. Many scholars have doubted about her very existence, taking her as a mere literary character. Those who have considered that she was an historic figure have dismissed the importance of her ideas. Here we are going to claim that she was a real woman and we will try to find out about her own thoughts.
